So very sorry…

Written in Blood would like to express the deepest of sympathy to the families and to the victims of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

When I first heard the news of the tragedy, I could not stop crying.

Here I am, this guy who thinks he’s a fairly tough son of a gun, and I’m bawling like a baby.

But then the silliest little thought came to my mind. I imagined God seeing these new little faces standing there before Him.

And I imagined God thinking to Himself, “Two weeks until Christmas and I’m going to need a lot more milk and cookies.”

The 26 candles represent the 20 children and 6 adults whose lives were taken.

The last candle represents Nancy Lanza, the first victim.

I don’t know what more to say; except that I am so very sorry.

I was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on March 4, 1962. I guess that makes me old, but I certainly don't feel that way. I still play video games and listen to rock and roll music. I love movies, especially horror films. I have a beautiful wife who is my all time best friend. She supports me in everything I do. More importantly, she calls me out on my bullshit. This blog is dedicated to her for everything she's done for me.

  1. Can’t imagine what the world is coming on to… where has compassion gone… why are kids turning out like this, such insensitive pieces as cold as the guns and machines they use to kill innocent souls…
May God give peace to the departed souls.
I loved it when I read the bit about God having to need more milk and cookies.. made me smile…

  2. I was kind of a day behind all of this. Working nights, in the UK, I dont tend to catch the news much (sports and movies guy) so was shocked when I heard about it.

I agree with Roger Ebert though and his views on this and the medias responsibility. But this isnt the time and place to blame anyone but the young man himself who did this. Sickening.

  3. Sadness travels the world. I live in Australia and also shed many tears over every one of these tragedies when they occur. Trust me, America does not grieve alone when this shit happens. My God, those children were 6 and 7 years old………what possesses people to do this? There are no answers…….there never has been and there never will be! God bless the families of those killed and wounded and thank you John for a touching tribute to those poor souls!

    • Ron, I struggled with the right words to say because I wanted to express myself in a way that would not bring these people even one more iota of pain Thank you, sir.

  4. Nice post! A lot of people including me was crying alongside you. Every time I think about it, it just hurts. My heart broke yesterday when I heard the news.

    • I have always been a firm believer that a parent should never have to attend the funeral of their child under any circumstances. It’s just not the way the world should work.

  5. This happened in my state. My family knows people who lost a loved one in the tragedy. It almost makes me want to home school my girls. They are six and seven. The same ages as most of the victims. It breaks my heart. I can’t imagine what those parents are going through.

  6. Definitely not crying alone. I think America herself is in tears right now. Beautiful sentiment here jmount.

  7. You aren’t crying alone…and this made it start all over again. Beautiful, compassion filled post. Thank you.
