It seems like everywhere you look someone is doing a mashup these days. For those of you who don’t know what a mashup is then allow me to explain. A mashup is when you take two or more things, i.e. books, movies, music or what have you. and put them together into one thing. It’s that simple! For instance, have you ever wondered what it would be like to combine classic Star Trek with Bonanza? How about Flash Gordon with the Aliens franchise? The possibilities are endless!

Daryl Wor has thought long and hard about mashups. A devoted Dark Shadows fan, she is the one-woman show that runs the podcast The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows

From archive.org:

A show of darkness with a lot of heart, plenty of chuckles made both of metaphors and bad puns. As Dark Shadows lifted story lines from a zillion old books of the Gothic variety, what would it be like if they shared time with the current classics? And what if these newer characters could help them lift all the curses? (Contains intros delving into the writing process as well as information and commentary about the various programs and key players.)

From Daryl Wor:

So, The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows is a condensed re-write of the old 1960′s series Dark Shadows. However, it incorporates a ton of other shows and films, mostly from the 1960′s to help get all the characters into a resolved state so they’ll eventually still be spooky, but working together rather than eating each other alive all the time.

So, a type of Dark Shadows, hosted by Sir Simon Milligan and Manservant Hecubus from The Kids In The Hall skits. The skits were called The Pit of Ultimate Darkness, hence the combined name of the podcast. Then the butler from Clue steps in, later Capt. Gregg from The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, eventually the Addams Family and well, the list goes on. So it would appeal to more than one set of fans to these things.  A sort of “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” approach.
And YEP! It’s all me, Daryl Wor… written, conceived, and performed by, though I have the help of sound clips, music and a very patient spouse! After doing all this, I must quote Sir Simon Milligan, “I am a man, possessed by many demons! Polite demons who would open a door for a lady carrying too many parcels… but DEMONS nonetheless.” And yeah, I’m a chick, but I really don’t mind being called Mister. Sure as heck beats “Ma’am“. So, you could call it a one-woman-show, but with all these characters and getting them accurate, I can hardly take all the credit.
Daryl sent me an e-mail asking if I would do a write-up to help her promote The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows. I am trying to work with her and see if she wants to post the show here on Written in Blood. All the credit for the show would go to her, of course; I’m just the middle man, so to speak.
So, I’m going to take a poll: do you want to see The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows as a feature here on Written in Blood? The poll will run for one week and then I will discuss with Daryl on which direction she wants to take depending on the outcome. So cast your votes and as always take care…and stay scared.

About Written in Blood

I was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on March 4, 1962. I guess that makes me old, but I certainly don't feel that way. I still play video games and listen to rock and roll music. I love movies, especially horror films. I have a beautiful wife who is my all time best friend. She supports me in everything I do. More importantly, she calls me out on my bullshit. This blog is dedicated to her for everything she's done for me.
