Everyone knows that I love horror movies. How many of you know that I love comic books? I do; and when the world of blood and gore collides with the world of four-color sequential panels it makes me happier than Jack the Ripper at the Chicken Ranch in Las Vegas. Take time to reference that if you need it.

When Russell Hillman, writer of “The Dark of the Forest”, sent me a PDF copy and asked me to write a preview I jumped at the chance.

From the press release:

We are Freaktown Comics – a new UK-based small press publishing imprint, specialising in horror and adventure one-shots.

Our first title is “THE DARK OF THE FOREST”

It all started out so innocently.

Seven friends set out on a birdwatching weekend in the middle of the Navarre forest. Little did they know that while they were watching the birds, something else was watching them. Something that wasn’t human. Something very protective of the forest, and willing to kill anyone that gets in its way.

 Something hungry.

Freaktown Comics brings you a desperate tale of survival, humans united against a mysterious and deadly predator in a bloody battle to the death.

Written by Russell Hillman, with art by Sergio Calvet.

48 pages full colour, £6.50

The book will be on sale at the Thought Bubble comic convention in late November, and will be available to order through from Wednesday 27th November

Here is a teaser and a preview of the first three pages:

There you have it, “The Dark of the Forest”. I read the preview copy and I have to say that I enjoyed it immensely. If you get the chance then by all means check it out.
